Coaching Responsibilities:
As you may know, FRSGL is run entirely by volunteers. Everyone from the Board of Trustees to each Head or Assistant Coach is volunteering their time to help make a great playing experience for our girls.

The biggest question we get asked about coaching is, "What do I have to do?" Well, aside from typical coaching duties (running practices, making the lineups, teaching the game of softball), the biggest responsibility of a coach in our league is coordination. This includes coordination with players, parents, other team coaches, and the Rec Director. The majority of the coordination is handled through the TeamSnap app, which is an app specifically designed for managing sports teams!

A breakdown of coaching responsibilities is included below for reference.


Before the Season Starts:

• Complete the USA Softball Background Check and Safe Sport Online Training. Click here for more information.
  

• Attend the coaches meeting / equipment pickup held by the league. At this meeting you can ask questions about the league, coaching, and obtain league issued equipment for your team (helmets, bats, catcher's gear, balls, tee if applicable).

• Distribute player uniforms. The league will order all player uniforms, but the coaches will distribute.
  

• Populate your team schedule in the TeamSnap app. The league will create and distribute the practice and game schedule to each head coach. The head coach will then populate that schedule into TeamSnap.
  

During the Season:

• Manage your team through TeamSnap.

• Coordinate with coaches from other teams to confirm game details (location, time) before each game.

• Inform the league Rec Director if a game is cancelled. The Rec Director will coordinate with the umpires for any cancellations.

• For divisions 10U and up, field preparation / lining (if necessary). Raritan Township prepares and lines the fields for all our games. However, if the field has not been prepared for your game, then the coaches will need to complete.

In the Event of Rain:

• If there is significant rain occurring or forecasted, the league may cancel all activities. If this is the case, a communication will be sent out via TeamSnap by the league. Coaches will then need to cancel games or practices in TeamSnap.

• Practices may be cancelled at the coaches discretion.
  

• For games against other townships:
  • For home games (at Lenape Park), if a game is cancelled, coaches must contact the opposing coaches to alert them of the cancellation.
  • For away games, coaches must contact opposing coaches for cancellation details.
