Recreation - Division Overview

• 6U - Ponies (5-6 years old; Grades K-1): Coach Pitch & Tee-Ball. This is a non-competitive division focused on learning the basics. There is no score kept, no umpires, and outs are not tracked. Teams will bat and field all players. Players will rotate to all positions. Coaches will pitch to players so they can hit the ball. If after several attempts the player cannot hit the ball, a tee will be used. Fielding the catcher's position is optional. Balls are 11-inch softie / compression balls.

• 8U - Rookies (7-8 years old; Grades 2-3): Coach Pitch. This is also a non-competitive division. There is no score kept and no umpires. Outs will be observed but will not be tracked. This means if a player makes an out (batting or base running) they will be taken off the bases, but the inning does not end if 3 outs are made. Teams will bat and field all players. Coaches will pitch to players so they can hit the ball. If after several attempts the player cannot hit the ball. The player will hit from a tee. Using the tee should be done sparingly. Fielding the catcher's position is still optional but highly encouraged. Balls are 11-inch softie / compression balls.

• 10U - Minors (9-10 years old; Grades 4-5): Player and Coach Pitch. Games are played with umpires, score is kept, and typical softball rules apply with some modification to gameplay. Pitching distance is 35 feet. Balls are 11-inch hard balls.

• 13U - Majors (11-13 years old; Grades 6-8): Player Pitch. Games are played with umpires, score is kept, and typical softball rules apply with fewer modification to gameplay. Pitching distance is 40 feet. Balls are 12-inch hard balls.

• 17U - Seniors (14-17 years old; Grades 9-12): Player Pitch. Games are played with umpires, score is kept, and typical softball rules apply. Pitching distance is 43 feet. Balls are 12-inch hard balls.

Since our recreation program plays other townships, the Rules to be followed will be clarified by the Recreation Director once the game schedules are distributed to coaches each season.
