Coaching Requirements

All REC and Travel coaches (head and assistant) are required to complete the following 2 requirements:

1. USA Softball Background Check - to complete this requirement go to www.registerasa.com and create a free account. On the Home Plate screen at the bottom is a spot to request the background check (no need to also complete ACE training). By creating an account you will receive a membership number. When taking the Safe Sport you will need this number to complete the online training. You will receive a "Volunteer Background Check Passed "card in the mail (pictured below) within 7-10 business days. YOU MUST HAVE THIS CARD ON YOU AT ALL TIMES WHEN PARTICIPATING IN ALL FRGSL/FLAMES ACTIVITIES. Upon receiving please send a picture of this card - front and back to your FRGSL/Flames Director. The background check is good for a calendar year. Reimbursement requests can be sent to:

2. Safe Sport Online Training - In 2017, Congress passed the Safe Sport Act as a means to prevent sexual abuse within the US Olympic and Paralympic programs. As of 2020, it is now a federal requirement that all programs within the US Olympic and Paralympic programs require adult coaches to complete SafeSport training. It is a 90-minute online training and is free. All coaches (head and assistant) will need to set up an account on the SafeSport site. You can access Safesport from the USA Softball website referenced above. As part of the registration, there's a question asking which program you're affiliated with - select USA Softball. Upon completion, a certificate will be generated that you can print or save. A copy of this certificate must be sent to your REC/Travel Director. Example below:
